BEST OF GADFLY LINEUP
You get the chance to see a nojoke cast pour heart & soul & perform these 4 “Best of Gadfly” dance works for one day, ONE DAY ONLY.
First glance at this dance gives you styled up traits of Remix culture, manga anime, social hustle, feminine heroism, and everyday realness. Look closely and you will see powerful female figures alive and densely populated with distress, doubt, bêtes noires, stress, and the other 601+ documented ways to address or dress-up Fear. Tag along their trip from victim to master of a ship many would rather abandon.
[accordionitem title=”STYGMATA – CRAWL OR STAND TALL”]
A woman deemed different is disgraced in society standardized by labels, status, and thirst for power. Privileged individuals, higher status people, and the self- proclaimed bourgeoisie conveniently decide what’s on top and discriminate everything else they don’t understand or doesn’t fit their mold. Problems arise when the copycats looking to stay safe, follow, and blend in realize they achieved exactly that. This 15-min not so stereotypical street dance ballet is about falling while standing tall, where scars grow who you are, and where marked women don’t have time to be brief and not leave a mark.
[accordionitem title=”3TIQET – OBEY OR BE ONE”]
Victor Hugo said: To divinise is human, to humanise is divine. Kafka countered: To animalise is humane, to humanise is animal. Social settings expect you to behave and follow ethical codes. We often get drowned in other people’s perception of ourselves. Sticking on us Label after label society whispers at us how to behave. It is not normal to be normal but few who make this their norm. Make a ruckus chose to be loud, proud, and let YOUR sound judgement balance what’s allowed.
[accordionitem title=”YOUNG ROMANCE – RECEDE OR RECOIL”]
Legendary Zen Buddhist monk Nhat Hanh puts it best: “If you pour a handful of salt into a cup of water, the water becomes undrinkable. But if you pour the salt into a river, people can continue to draw the water to cook, wash, and drink.” A Young Romance held by the thread of Certainty ends. Whether a woman plays defence or takes matter on her own hands speaks volume; a lens on vulnerability, strength, and real elegance.
Initially just an episode from award winning production Klorofyl (A Tale of a tribe of warriors empowered or weakened by a dependance on 5 primal human needs) this extract was so palpable and unique in itself that it stood to become a complete work.
